Phoenix is hot.

Sure, it may not officially be summer yet (it’s coming June 21st!), but we Phoenicians are already far too familiar with 100+ degree temperatures! Since it’s only going to get hotter, we’re stockpiling as many indoor activities as we can think of for the days when the heat is just too much to handle!   1. Bass Pro Shop
    Voted the #1 outdoor gear retailer by Sporting Goods Magazine, Bass Pro Shops provides more than just the average shopping experience. With impressive décor including local antiques and artifacts, giant aquariums, and wildlife mounts; plus, classes, seminars, licensing, and even an 11,000 square foot restaurant, Bass Pro Shops is sure to attract the entire family! Kid’s Night is extra special and runs every Tuesday from 5-7pm, kids enjoy FREE crafts, coloring, popcorn, archery, and fish feeding at 6pm! More details from the Mesa location here.
  2. The Phoenix Zoo
    Despite being a mostly outdoor experience, The Phoenix Zoo remains open throughout the summer, with summer hours (7am – 2pm daily) starting June 1 and running through August 31. The Zoo does offer kids splash zones, Yakulla Caverns and Leapin’ Lagoon so make sure to bring water-safe clothing, sunscreen, towels, hats, and plenty of cold drinking water!   3. Summer Concert Series/McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
    Every Sunday Night from April 29 – July 1, you can enjoy Scottsdale Parks & Recreation’s Summer Concert Series 2018. Each week showcases a featured artist with performances ranging from classic rock to country. Entrance to the Summer Concert Series is free and food, drinks, and train/carousel rides will be available for purchase (alcohol is not permitted). Bring a blanket or chair and find your summer spot at the Railroad Park, recently recognized as one of the best live music venues in Arizona by Best of American Towns!   4. Arizona Authors Summertime Storytelling & Crafts Saturdays
    The Pueblo Grande Museum brings families together for storytime, crafts, snacks, and more every Saturday in June from 10am to noon! Each program is $5 and includes admission and a light snack. This indoor activity is perfect for children in grades Pre-K through 4th. More info here.
  5. Phoenix Parks & Recreation Pool Parties
    The City of Phoenix hosts several traveling Sizzling Summer & Itty Bitty Beach Party events throughout the summer. These free events educate the community about water, sun, and heat safety and Hawaiian-themed Itty Bitty Beach Parties (designed for kids ages 6 and under) include games, contests, refreshments, and a visit from Buddy Bear.   6. Desert Botanical Gardens Flashlight Tours
    You’ve never seen the DBG like this. Guests use their own flashlights along self-paced trails to experience night-blooming plants and the wildlife that exists in the desert after dark. Flashlight tours are available every Saturday night from 7-9:30pm May 26th-September 1st and is free with the purchase of general admission.   7. Arizona Diamondbacks Game
    There’s nothing like using someone else’s A/C in the middle of the Phoenix summer, but don’t worry, the D-backs don’t mind! In fact, the air conditioning system at Chase Field is so powerful, it can cool the entire stadium from 110 to 72 degrees in just about 4 hours (and a $12,000 per day electric bill!).   8. Bodies Revealed Exhibition
    This traveling exhibition is currently located at the OdySea in the Desert in Scottsdale. Providing a unique and informative view into the human body, Bodies Revealed features more than 200 real human bodies and specimens which have been meticulously dissected and respectfully displayed to offer an unprecedented view of the body in action.   9. Sutra Poolside Yoga
    Recharge your summer vibe with complementary poolside yoga every Sunday in June at 9am. This partnership between Sutra Studios, Found: Re Hotel, and Match Restaurant & Lounge promises a morning of luxury, self-love, and deep beats. Enjoy your Sutra flow while a live DJ spins poolside. Stay for brunch after yoga and you’ll receive 20% off your bill at Match!     Sometimes, the only way to reward yourself for not melting cool down in Phoenix is with a yummy treat and luckily, Phoenix has several great options sure to bring down your internal temperature! Here are a few of our personal favorites: Creamistry, Churn, Bahama Bucks, Snoh, Baked Bear, and Pop n Tea. Take your pick, map the quickest route, and enjoy!
